The Family Advocates Canada Children's Program is an integral part of the eight-week Thriving Relationships workshop series, which focuses on supporting immigrant families with healthy relationships skills training, building community and navigating post migration strain. While parents participate in the Thriving Relationships Program, children engage in parallel sessions designed to help them understand family dynamics within their new context and foster healthy communication. Through eight interactive sessions, children participate in activities tailored to their age group, reflecting themes from the parent workshops. These activities encourage children to express their thoughts and emotions in a healthy, simple manner, and to communicate what they learn with their parents. The goal is to empower children to embrace emotional expression, enhance family relationships, and contribute to a supportive family environment.

The children’s sessions follow the same core themes as the Thriving Relationships: A Couple’s Guide to Relational Transformation book by Dr. Damilola Adingupu and Mr. Ifechukwude Adingupu, adapted for their developmental level. Topics include communication, conflict management, forgiveness, relationships with family and friends, generosity, physical and verbal affection, and more. Through this program, children are supported in developing emotional intelligence and strong family bonds.

Over 8 weeks the children will learn:

  • Children & the first impression

  • Communication

  • Managing conflict

  • Forgiveness

  • Relationship with family & friends

  • Generosity & sharing

  • Physical affection in the family

  • Verbal affection & expression
