What is Marriage Mentoring?

Marriage mentors are experienced married couples who purposefully invests in other couples to support their process of effectively navigating the marriage journey. Marriage mentors allow their hindsight to become someone else’s foresight.

Mentoring isn’t a counseling or coaching service.
The definitions below illustrate the differences between these various types of services
and establish boundaries for the mentor–mentee relationship.

  • Mentoring
  • Coaching
  • Counseling

Mentoring

Mentoring is a relationship between experienced individuals (mentors) and less experienced persons (mentees) where the mentors share their experiences and knowledge with the mentees.

Mentors can provide advice, suggestions, and other information from which the mentees can learn and help the mentees to develop their marriage relationships. As part of this mentor-mentee relationship, the mentors can also provide guidance and share their expertise, experience, and knowledge. Although friendships can develop through mentorship, this isn’t the aim of the mentorship program.

What’s Required to Be a Mentor Couple:

To serve as a mentor couple, you should have at least 10 years of experience in marriage, be living out a healthy and thriving relationship, and have a genuine love for people.

A willingness to share your journey, the ups and the lessons, and commit a minimum of 1 hour per week for at least two months to support another couple is essential. Training and support will be provided.

Coaching

Coaching is a results-based approach that involves setting goals or objectives and managing professional and personal change. Led by someone with the necessary expertise (the coach), this activity aims to help the person being coached to become more aware of aspects that can lead to success and better performance, possible inconsistencies, and main challenges—often elements the person being coached isn’t aware of but that are key in their development.

Counseling

"Counseling aims to resolve a wide variety of personal difficulties using targeted solutions Qare tailored to the unique needs and circumstances of each individual. This process is typically guided by a trained mental health professional (the counselor), who creates a supportive and confidential environment where clients can explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Through structured conversations and evidence-based techniques, counseling helps individuals gain insight into the root causes of their challenges, develop healthier coping strategies, and make meaningful changes in their lives. Whether addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship conflicts, trauma, or life transitions, counseling encourages self-awareness, emotional growth, and personal empowerment. Often, it also brings to light underlying patterns or internal conflicts that the individual may not have previously recognized, but which are essential to understanding their difficulties and achieving lasting resolution.

Arts Outlet – Summer Program by The Family Advocates Canada

Arts Outlet is a vibrant, weekly summer experience designed to awaken creativity and nurture self-expression in children entering Grades 1 through 6 (Fall 2026). Hosted at The Family Haven @ Kipling Square – Annex, Suite 180, 611 10th Ave, Calgary, this program invites children into a safe, joyful, and imaginative space where their ideas, voices, and creativity can flourish.

Throughout the week, participants will explore a wide variety of expressive arts. From drawing and painting to collage storytelling, poetry circles, clay-making, and body-and-mind movement, each day is thoughtfully curated to spark curiosity and build confidence. Children will not only create but also connect with themselves, their peers, and with creativity. Intentional game times from Monday to Thursday add fun, movement, and opportunities for teamwork and social bonding.

Fridays offer a special experience: Library Day, where children will visit the inspiring and artistic environment of the Calgary Central Library, an exploration of creativity beyond the classroom walls.
